As our country continues to fight the current COVID-19 pandemic, it’s becoming increasingly evident that we, as construction professionals, need to take extra care and precautions in order to slow down the spread of this virus. As the industry has been deemed “essential” in many parts of the country, ensuring that construction operations continue, the obligation to safeguard workers is front and center.
COVID-19 has had a major impact on the country, and businesses are feeling the hit as quarantines, and social distancing measures continue to affect the U.S. economy. Many companies have instructed those who can to work remotely, moved to limited operations, or even closed their doors to mitigate the spread of this virus. As construction professionals, however, the work we do has been deemed essential during the current crisis, keeping the construction workforce viable to support emergency construction requirements, but also leaving them at potential risk.
An Accident Prevention Plan (APP) is one of the first key documents to complete when starting up a new project. Employee safety comes first and a properly written APP outlines how managers and stakeholders are going to successfully manage safety requirements for all aspects of the project. An Accident Prevention Plan, however, requires a lot of work and research to effectively address all required activities, both individually and collectively.
